Overview

Race Bank Wind Farm is an Orsted owned, 573MW offshore wind farm located 27 km north of Blakeney Point off the coast of Norfolk, and 28 km east of Chapel St Leonards off the Lincolnshire coast in the North Sea.

H&Askham were subcontracted by our client in January 2019 to complete the replacement of an inter-array cable including; removal, replacement, pull-in, testing and termination, for Race Bank Wind Farm.

SCOPE

H&Askham was subcontracted to complete all topside works for the inter array-cable replacement on the Race Bank Wind Farm – between the developments OSS and TP structures, including the deployment of equipment and manpower for this project.

All relevant interface documentation was prepared with close liaison with our client. H&A teams and equipment were mobilised onto a walk to work vessel from Blyth UK, with all required equipment deployed on to the TP and OSS locations; including the mobilisation of subsea equipment, debridal/burial equipment and associated ROV equipment.

On-site, H&A teams completed the lifting and setup of pull-in equipment, as well as spread and preparation of the cable ends for removal. The cable ends were pulled out of both locations and new cables were pulled in through the existing CPS’s. In addition, a CPS replacement contingency was put in place but not required. At each end, the subsea cable was prepared, stripped into its 3 cores plus FO core, routed, cleated and terminated. Phase, Sheath TDR and soak testing to the HV cores was carried out and OTDR testing completed on the FO cable. On completion of the cable replacement, all equipment and teams were demobilised to shore and the system was successfully energised.
