Prysmian is a Global Leader in the Cable Systems Industry and a long-standing client of H&Askham. Prysmian approached H&A early in 2019, to complete the export cable removal, pull-in’s, cable management and test and termination support, on four separate North Sea offshore wind platforms – Borwin Gamma, Borwin Beta, Albatross, and the Dutsche Bucht.
Each of these platforms presented its own unique challenges, which our project team delivered efficient solutions; through strategic planning, equipment supply, and the deployment of experienced teams, to deliver the project work scopes on time and on budget.
'Prysmian was able to successfully connect and commission the Dutsche Bucht North and South, Global Tech AC106 and AC107, and Albatros export cables, as well as overcome all encountered challenges on the OSS and converter stations, thanks to the support and assistance provided by the highly skilled teams from H&Askham.'

H&A connected four North Sea offshore substation platforms, providing 220kV cable pull-in, cable preparation and testing and termination support; enabling the diver-less installation of interconnecting export cables, between four separate and very diverse platforms. Our teams were deployed to each platform prior to the arrival of the cable installation vessel – preparing each platform for cable pull-in operations. Following the pull-ins, our teams completed the hang off’s, prepared the cable cores – routing them to the jointing termination location and a further support team was deployed by H&A to carry out the testing and termination works. The Albatross Platform consisted of a J-tubeless monopile and whilst this is normal for Inter Array Cables, this was one of the first attempted pull-ins with an export cable of this size. H&A provided an ROV [Remote Operated Vehicle] with an in-house operator, to inspect and monitor the messenger wire recovery and each stage during the sub-sea pull-in operations until the Cable Protection System was fully engaged. Once completed the teams dismantled the 30te pulling winch and demobilised the equipment to shore.
